How to Clean Distillate Off Of Your Body/Hair

Writer's picture: TurkeyTurkey

If you are a new blender, I have some news for you: You are in for a sticky surprise! When dealing with distillates regularly it is almost a guarantee you will get some on your hands. Also, if you have long hair and dab sitting down, your hair getting caught in disty is also an inevitability. When your hair is long enough to reach the table your dabber is on all it takes is one hair to attach to it to pull it off the table.

Before we get started talking about how to deal with this issue, let's talk about prevention for a moment. After all, the best way to deal with a bad situation is by preventing it in the first place.

I am going to list some common things that you might do while dabbing that can get you sticky. These are actions that you should try and remain very conscientious of while you perform them.

  • Reaching Across The Table [Hair gets caught in dabber or nail]

  • Overfilling Jars [Hands get sticky as hell]

  • Open jars or loaded dabbers around while blending [Hair gets caught]

Advice on getting sticky distillate off your hands.

Method 1 - Use hand sanitizer as if it were soap with hot water.

Just do your regular hand-washing motions but with hand sanitizer. At first it may be difficult to get your hands to rub together but it will get easier quickly.

Pros: Easy, fast and works very well

Cons: Some people do not keep hand sanitizer in their home

Method 2 - Use butter as if it were soap with hot water

This sounds utterly bizarre at first, but makes a lot of sense when you think about it. The THC will bind to the butter and then be washed out by the hot water.

Pros: Easy, fast, and works very well. It's almost a guarantee that some will be in the home.

Cons: Can be messy and you have to get your hands all buttery. You have to wash your hands pretty thoroughly with soap after

Method 3 - Wash your hands in just hot water for a long time

This is the most frustrating of all 3 but also requires the least amount of other things. Using water that is almost burning is a requirement. Remember to use paper towels to dry your hands throughout. (See Do's and Don'ts at the bottom of the page for the reasoning).

Pros: Requires no other items

Cons: Takes a long time, can hurt your hands

Advice on getting sticky distillate out of your hair

Method 1 - Shower immediately and let hot water melt it off

This is the quickest and most straightforward method. It does take a while, but using hotter water than you would be comfortable with and just allowing it to just hit your hair can really speed things up.

Pros: Requires no additional tools, nothing gross in your hair

Cons: Takes a very long time if you have a good amount of distillate stuck in your hair. To speed it up keep the temp of the shower as high as possible.

Method 2 - Do nothing and let it sit overnight, then use a shower with hot water to melt it off.

This is what I like to do most of the time. The cleaning process in the morning is far easier and quicker than with method 1.

Pros: Requires no additional tools, nothing gross in your hair. When you wait it will spread out in your hair a bit, and by morning it will take a lot less time to get the distillate out of your hair.

Cons: No immediate relief, small amounts of distillate may get on things your hair touches. Chance for other items to get stuck in your hair.

Method 2 - Use butter and hot water

This sounds utterly bizarre at first, but makes a lot of sense when you think about it. The THC will bind to the butter and then be washed out by the hot water.

Pros: Pretty fast relief. The butter will bind to the THC and you can rinse it out of your hair. A few washes and rises should do the trick.

Cons: You have to put fuckin' butter in your hair.

Do's and Don'ts when you have distillate stuck to you:

Don't

  • Go around small loose items or powders that could get caught in the distillate

  • Touch anything valuable. You will have to destickify it later

  • Touch other parts of your body

  • Cut the hair off

  • Panic

Do

  • Use paper towels to dry your hands, even midway through. Apply pressure when you do this. If the paper towel tears off on your hand, that's ok. It will rinse off and when it does much of the distillate will go with it

  • Use as hot of water as you can

Yeah, so those are all interesting ways to, uh, get distillate off things... Neat. I go with Occam's Razor, though.

100% of cases ime, a simple spray of 91% isopropyl alcohol removes even the thickest distillates from... well, anything! Cannabinoids are far more freely soluble in alcohol at room temp than they are in fat.

I had D9THCv somehow get stuck on my arm, like FUSED to it. Hit it with iso, massaged it, came right off. I never use anything else.

I have never considered using any of the methods you wrote about, the closest would be hand sanitizer+hot water but that's just ime not effective.

Problem with that method, is that the alcohol…
